September Newsletter

Mia turned 18 this past month!
What a journey the last 18 years have been!
She is an inspiration to cleft cuties all over America!

Happy Birthday, Mia!!!

It’s been a whole year since we started sending you our newsletters, and we have been overwhelmed with your encouragement, generosity and kindness!  Sometimes on this cleft journey we can feel forgotten and overlooked as we also try to “normalize” our lives.  The fact is, once a cleft child enters our family, the perspective of normal changes.  Every few months there is a new normal in which to adjust as our child’s physical condition changes.  Then as they grow older, there is a brand new normal involving social and emotional issues accompanying the physical ones.  At times, it can be a lot for a “normal” family.  It is truly ever-changing.

That is a BIG part of what our upcoming MIA MOO FUNDay is all about!  Our goal for this annual weekend is to say “It’s okay!” All the emotions, all the physical challenges, all the decision-making dilemmas, etc etc etc…it’s all going to be okay!  Next weekend we will gather with 30+ of our cleft families who are making the road trip to Louisiana to be encouraged, loved on, laughed with, cried with, prayed over and so much more!  This is the weekend where ALL their feelings are validated.  This cleft journey can be tough at times, but it can also be a huge blessing.  It’s so much better when shared with those who understand.

Please pray for this important weekend.  The Mia Moo Fund pays for EVERYTHING for these families during this amazing weekend (hotel rooms, meals, activities, crafts, ALL THINGS FUN!).  All they have to do is get here!  So, if you feel lead to donate to this unforgettable weekend, please know that it will be greatly appreciated!

Missy Robertson

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Wyatt was born with a unilateral cleft lip and soft palate on his left side. Around 6 weeks old he had surgery to fix his lip. When he was 11 months old, he had surgery to fix his soft palate. At age 9, he had a bone graft surgery to add bone mass to the roof of his mouth. He has had a few teeth removed by the maxillofacial surgeon. He sees the orthodontist frequently as he now has braces and has for the past 14 months. He is 13 years old and in the 8th grade. He likes to play football and golf (school sports). He enjoys farming, camping, singing at church, attending college Football games at South Dakota State University, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

"We are so grateful for the support we have received from the Mia Moo fund. What a blessing it has been.  When we filled out our application, we knew that we may receive financial assistance, but we didn't realize that we would be part of a larger "family" that supports and encourages each child's journey. We are forever grateful for all the support and relationships we have gained from this wonderful organization."  Pricilla (Wyatt's mom)
