August 2023 Reflection

Hooray for August!
August Reflection
Hey everybody! Mia here! I am writing this in the middle of the month, because I am having surgery on the 21st! But so far this month, I have already been to 6 different states! I visited both friends and family and I am thankful for all of them, near and far! As I am preparing for my upcoming surgery, I am in a constant state of prayer and thanksgiving! The Lord is still good! Praise be to Him!
I hope you all have had an amazing summer! I pray that as you enter this next school year and season that you all keep your faith and trust in Him! Love you all so dearly.
Xoxo,
Mia
UPDATE:

AUGUST  RECIPIENT
Khloe is the heart of our family!  With 3 older siblings she has always been loved and a little spoiled by all of us!  She is so fun, full of joy, peaceful and kind.  She is the winner of all the fun games we play together and is motivated to be the best she can be at school.  Khloe has handled all 6 of her surgeries related to her cleft and hearing like such a warrior, never complaining but pushing through with perseverance!  ~ Khloe’s mom
SPOTTED!
Mia got to spend an entire week with her bestie niece, Merris. Here is photo of them sitting on the piano bench after having a jam
session! Merris is a natural!
!!! Recipe of the month !!!

We are doing a new recipe each month to help children who are undergoing those tough surgeries! Whether you are on a liquid diet, a soft food diet, or just someone who is always down to try new foods, these recipes are for you!

Beans and Rice
Place the following in a 7 QT crockpot
(Feeds approx. 6 people. Double in same crockpot to feed a crowd!)
1 pound dry pinto beans
1/2 tbsp salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
(Phil’s has less salt and more flavor than Tony’s)
1 tbsp dried onion flakes
1 tbsp of my secret ingredient found in the Dominican Republic
(Ricompleto - you can order from Amazon)
1 large slice of bone-in ham steak
Cut up pieces of ham steak and place in pot
Fill large crockpot (7 quarts) halfway with water
Place lid on top and cook on HIGH for 9 hours

Enjoy over rice and pair with Mexican cornbread (recipe in a previous newsletter) and homemade ranch dressing. The men in my family like to add Cajun sausage for a truly southern and spicy meal!

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

This is Austin. He is 12 years old and just started 7th grade. Right now we are preparing for his  surgery next summer which will be the Halo (Rigid external distraction ) surgery that will move his top jaw forward.
"We are forever thankful for the Mia Moo Fund that has made his orthodontics phase possible. So blessed to be a part of such an amazing organization!" ~ Austin's mom
